2019 Mumbai Republic Day parade MMRDA float with Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial model

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was appointed by the Maharashtra State Government to construct a memorial in honour of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on the land where Indu Mills once stood. A model of this memorial was on display as the tableau on the MMRDA float at the 2019 Mumbai Republic Day parade.

The model of the memorial showed the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar standing tall atop the circular exhibition halls which will form the base of the statue. As per media reports, the top of the auditorium will be landscaped with greenery, as also the area atop the proposed museum. One one side of the entrance lobby area will be a research centre and adjacent to it will be the library. There will also be an auditorium which will be able to seat approximately a thousand people and a meditation centre.

The existing pond on the land will also be redeveloped to be a replica of the Chavdaar pond which is located in the town of Mahad, District Raigad. Flowering plants will add to the overall greenery. Some of these various aspects were picturised on the side banners of the MMRDA float.
